A Few Headlines in LGBT News

Gay Inclusive Prom Idea Gets Student President Fired

Frankly, I think if this had been handled properly, the idea may have been voted down anyway, but as it is, a student's voice was stifled, due process was squashed, and he was fired for no good reason. A lawsuit is pending. Good for him for standing up for himself, his desire to be more inclusive, and his constitutional rights.

Exxon Mobil Continues to Resist LGBT Protections

I have always found the argument, "We don't need to add them; they're already protected" to be ridiculous. If they're redundant, why not just add them anyway, then and make everybody happy? Because lgbt people are NOT protected everywhere in the world, and not everywhere in the US, either. LGBT people are fired just for being lgbt (or if perceived to be lgbt). They are evicted from their homes and kicked out of restaurants.

And finally, in a move that can only be labled "absurd," a New Jersey school throws out the baby with the bathwater:
New Jersey School Bans Hugging

Not an lgbt story, per say, but you have to believe some of the "inappropriate behavior" is pretty much anything between a same sex couple.

I think I remember reading an article years ago about a school that banned hugging. I thought the rule was stupid then, and it's still stupid now. Ban groping and making out in the hallways if you must, but... hugging?

Next, they'll make sure there's at least a foot of space between everybody. They'll ban touching altogether. ;-P
