Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead

"No one has done more to turn the next generation away from anti-LGBT bias than Fred Phelps. In this sense, he was a monumental failure who achieved the polar opposite of what he set out to accomplish. His main legacy is ripping off the Religious Right’s mask and exposing them as fraudulent haters and hypocrites. In a world full of plastic people, at least Phelps was authentic, even if it was authentic evil."

You know I'm actually going to miss his "Today so and so entered Hell videos" and ridiculously infantile attention seeking placards at funerals. Do you think his church will honour him with a video and funeral protest, especially since they reportedly excommunicated him? I would find the irony deliciously beautiful. :-p

In truth I always saw him and his family/cult as a group of sad little people condemned through their own actions to never add anything joyous to the world. Instead of bringing kindness and cheer they made it their life's work to preach a theology where in the afterlife they get to sit by a flaming pool drinking mai tais while the Great Executioner in the Sky sadisticly tortures everyone that isn't them. I don't despair of ever turning them from their beliefs, rather when confronted with such hate I'd rather shake the hand of everyone they personal despise and say "See you in their Hell, my friend!" because it would be a far better afterlife than anything they imagine.

He was such an angry man, the few videos I ever saw were absolutely frightening. You could physically feel the hate.
