One thing I looked forward to while at Yvette's was going to the Church of the Resurrection on Saturday evening. Yvette had forwarded me this sermon on Christians and Homosexuality. It was the best sermon I'd ever heard on the subject and I blogged twice about it. I've been following the sermons online ever since.

Being there was almost more like going to the movies. A huge theatre with screens to better see the tiny people down front. ;) They would also show clips to illustrate a point. There was a live band, which was very good. They played both secular music (Earth Wind & Fire's "Shining Star") and contemporary gospel music.

I was disappointed that Pastor Hamilton was absent, but Rev. Nicole Conard did a good job. This was the final sermon in a series on the Seven Deadly Sins. The subject was envy.

I don't struggle with this particular sin as much as some. I have other struggles. But I've learned that envy comes from seeing only one aspect of another person and thinking that they must be so much better off because they appear to have something I want. Upon closer inspection, things are not as perfect as they seem. With every pro there is a con.

Maybe not better. Maybe just different. They are who they are, and I am who I am, and that's OK.

Later that evening, Yvette, Eric, and I sang karaoke in their living room. She has her own machine. At first, we had it cranked and used the microphone, but it had a bad cord and we wanted to have more than one person singing, so we turned down the sound and ditched the mic. We were singing background vocals when we weren't on a lead. It was fun. We sang the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, the Eagles and Queen. Good times.

We tried "Seven Bridges Road." It was a little shaky, but since they expressed interest, the next time all three of us are together, I intend to spend some time on this and really teach them to find and hold their parts. It's a good song to learn harmonies on. ;)

Too bad Pastor Hamilton wasn't there, but the sermon was still nice and well done.

I loved singing with you and Eric, and look forward to the next time.

Btw, I could use some prayer. I'm feeling very very low these days. Don't know when I had it so bad before.

Hello,

It was a very interesting sermon. I think this is the first time I have heard a pastor openly acknowledge the often hypocritical practice of picking and choosing which scriptures to embrace and extol.

Thanks for sharing.

If you click to the left, you will see the entire series (beginning of 2009), "When Christians Get It Wrong." There's one on the supposed conflict of Christianity and science and the marriage of Christianity and politics - two ideas I rail against.

Yvette has proposed a night of karaoke at D*C - possibly Friday evening.

There are several singer/musicians among us D*C goers. I used to sing and play keyboards in a classic rock band. I also sang with a gospel group with lots of harmonies. I never sang "Seven Bridges Road" in a performance, though.

Maybe Saturday...
We need to see. :D

I think I'd need guidance before I could do this one at a Karaoke bar...

Jo suggests we should do "It's Raining Men" and "Feel like a Woman" with you as Lambert and me as Captain Bel. ;)
But I think Lambert will be with Ringo, and Gérard will be with the Captain...

I don't want to do SBR at a karaoke bar; I was thinking next time you and Eric and I are together, we could really work with it.

I'm thinking if I bring a fourth costume, it will be Bella, in which case, I'll want to wear it Sunday.

So, Gerard will probably show up Saturday afternoon/evening.
