I've Been Insulted Many Times In My Life

But never so much as by another Christian who tells me, for all intents and purposes, that I am not good enough for God because I don't see things exactly as they do. And their way is THE right way, of course.

Fortunately, I don't have to be good enough for them. Or for God.

Did you remind her "do unto others..."?! I am sure the God I read about in the New Testament thinks you're just fine. Hugs.

I was too frustrated and insulted by that point to properly verbalize what I was feeling. This was the end of a long discussion on gay rights and the fact that he uses propaganda and the words of discredited professionals and superstitous Christians to back up his claims.

The God I believe in is a God of unconditional love.

Hugs to you, too.

I'm just grateful such narrow folks aren't the majority by a long-shot...though it only takes one to seriously irk a body. :-/ Sheesh.

Where I work and live, there are a disproportionate number of these kinds of people.

Hello,

The Bible has a number of scriptures that can be used as weapons. Unfortunately, these are the scriptures that some followers of your faith prefer.

I am reminded of a teenager listening to violent music. The parent of this teen is concerned that the music is making their child more prone to violence. The parent never considers the possibility that the child is already violent and has discover something the shares his or her world view.

Like the teenager enjoying some musical rage, certain hate filled individuals take comfort in those passages from the Bible that justify their archaic prejudices.

In any event, I am sorry that you have to put up with undeserved hate. I wish I could write something to comfort you.

You just did.

And I completely agree with your sentiments on violence and music/video games/pick your poison.

Aw, this makes me sad and angry. *hugs* You are really doing fine, better than fine in my opinion, in showing how loving God can be. I am so sorry people are so close minded and judgemental.

People are stupid.

Christians are a most judgmental lot. But there are others, too.

What a self-righteous ass.

Unfortunately, the majority of Christians I know believe like that. There are some rare gems who actually follow Jesus' message of love, instead of the modern church's message of bigotry and superiority. But they seem to be the exception, not the rule. And they have to deal with a lot of judgemental shit like what you experienced. That's one of the (many) reasons I finally walked away from the Christian faith.

I'm sorry that you walked away from it completely, but I understand why.

I actually have met several quietly supportive and open minded Christians here, but the bigots and fundamentalists are louder.

And I work for one.

My church is mixed, but my pastor is great.
