My New Office

I’ve worked for the same employer for almost 17 years. I started at the receptionist’s desk, working in one of two areas we know affectionately as “the fish bowl.”

I’ve moved a couple of times, and about a year ago, finally got an office with a door. Three doors, in fact. The rest of the accounting department was moved to an area behind me. It was rather noisy, despite the doors, as I rarely closed them, unless I was on the phone or working on a tough problem. ;)

One of the women in the accounting department developed severe allergy problems that seemed to be tied to the area where she worked. My boss decided she should move into my office, and rather than put me out in the back area where there was room to expand, I was to go to one of the fish bowls, where I would be closer to the two people I answer to. Not wanting to cause problems with a prima donna attitude, I agreed, but I wasn’t too keen on the idea.

However, taking into account my status in the company at this point, some modifications were made, and I now have the coolest looking office in the place.

Though the glass doesn’t go to the ceiling and I don’t have a door, my new office is surprisingly much quieter than the old one. If I’m playing my radio at a low volume, I can’t hear it on the other side at all.

I decided to personalize it with a couple of photos. I wanted something that reflected my personality, but was still tasteful for the office.

That's a gnome on my filing cabinet, btw. ;)

Here are the pictures (I used a LOT of toner to print the second one, lol). These are both from A Long Expected Party last year.

Ah-- I see someone else is still in ALEP withdrawal. Yes. ;-)

I do like that photo of the Merry Elves of Lorien... and the Galadriel wave shot is a Classic. I still wonder what those boaters thought about what they saw float by on the paddle-wheeler that day... lol.

Congrats on the new digs. Very classy.

I thought the pastoral scenes looked a bit less "costumey" and were more appropriate. ALEP was a unique experience and I do look forward to the next one.

I think the boaters were like, "What the... ?"

I'm pretty happy with the new digs. Yes.

This office is smaller than the previous one, but it doesn't feel that way, and I'm very happy with it. Yes.

Seems nice and bright and open with the glass, but still private. And very nice choice on the pics. The Galadriel wave is totally iconic to me now and hey, I'm on your wall! ;)
