Sucks To Be a Nuke Fan Today

Another soap bites the dust. CBS has decided to cancel "As the World Turns."

I never thought I would get caught up in a soap opera again, but the Luke and Noah story reeled me in. Innovative, honest, and well-acted, "Nuke" helped to normalize gay life and make it less scary for many who would not otherwise have been exposed to gay people at all.

It's clear that the show has been struggling. They were left with a small handful of sets - only one person can be critically ill or hurt at any time, because Oakdale has a one-room hospital. Nuke had what fans came to call the "invisipartment," because they were supposedly living together, but there was no set. And just when things are getting interesting and angsty for the boys, Noah (Jake Silbermann) gets sent into soap exile for a time, which really means, "you're not on contract, and we can't afford to pay you right now."

Of course, the invisipartment solved another dilema for the producers: they didn't have to deal with those pesky, controversial "gay bedroom scenes." The boys had one sex scene, which was very "I Love Lucy," and after that, it was implied but not seen.

The show will run until next September.

Yeah, a sad day indeed.
Lisa had been looking for today's episode when she got home, and it wasn't there. Then she went upstairs, only to come down a little while later to say it's been announced that they're cancelling.

It really is a sad day for soaps.

I feel like I'll be losing a good friend... and there will be a void once it's really really gone.

Sorry you're feeling so down. But even so, I'm glad I told you about Luke & Noah...

So... Is Noah written out now?

Re: Yeah, a sad day indeed.
No, he'll be back. They're saying he'll be around for Christmas. I don't know if that's temporary and he'll go back in to exile or not.

Not for long if the fans have anything to say about it. ;)

And I'm very glad you told me about them!

I know how much this couple means to you. I am really sorry to hear they will be leaving the screen.

It's not too surprising. They've been struggling with budget issues for years. I'm hoping the whole cast isn't in a one-room set by the end. ;P

I just hope the boys can find other work because they're both great actors.
