NYC - Part 4

Saturday evening – Nukapalooza!

Nukapalooza is a Nuke party organized by fans, with no official affiliation to the show, and no guarantee that any actors from the show will attend, although several are invited. I noted with amusement that the bar that would host the party was not far from the museum of sex. ;)

Troy let me know that Ron was now invited, as some attendees had to cancel because they were stuck in Europe due to the volcano that no one can pronounce. Or spell. ;) I hadn’t asked for this, or expected it, but it helps that Troy was involved in the organizing of the party.

Angela and Theresa, Nukapalooza organizers.

Ron and I had eaten beforehand, not knowing what food would be there. Turns out, there was quite a lot, but we were still glad to have eaten something less snack/appetizer oriented, even though everything looked delicious. I could not resist the fresh-baked, still warm cookies they brought out later. :)

I got to chat with a few people I’d met earlier, and met a few others.

Van was there early, talking with fans. I got to ask him about an upcoming appearance in Pittsburgh in June – YAY! He does a good Pittsburgh accent (he attended the Carnegie School of Drama there). ;)

Jake showed up a little later and could not stay long. They had fun mugging with stand-ups of themselves. ;D

It seems to be a requirement that you have at least one tattoo in order to work at this club. Working out seems to be required, also (nice!). Everyone wore black. As I observed them, my “gaydar” was going off for all the guys. The lady behind the bar looked like she could beat the crap out of me, if she’d wanted to. She was pretty, but severe-looking (if she’d smiled, she would have been prettier) After awhile, I noticed the rainbow flag sticker on the door. Ohh…got it. Hee.

Van and Jake’s fan base consists mostly of straight women and gay men, so it occurred to me that, after Jake left, Ron was possibly the only straight guy in the place. This would not have fazed him a bit, had he realized it, because there is not a homophobic bone in his body. <3

I was having a good time. I haven’t been to a club in ages. But it was clear that this isn’t Ron’s cup of tea, especially since he’d pretty much worn himself out walking around for several hours that day. He was a pretty good sport about it, but after awhile, he said he needed to leave, and if I wanted to stay, that was fine. Well, this was our first trip together, so what do you think I did? ;)

Bye, everybody! See you in June, Van!

When they announced the change in the venue, I checked out the Vig27 website, so I knew it was a gay club beforehand. I thought it was pretty nice place with a good atmosphere and decor (but then again, I wouldn't know much since I don't really ever go out to clubs or bars).

Glad you had a good time. That's awesome that you're going to the event in Pittsburgh. Besides that and Paris, I hope there will be another event in the future for fans to get together one last time.

I liked the place, too.

Who knows what the future holds? I think a get together could be possible after some time has passed and the fickle fans have left, maybe taking a large portion of the nasty attitudes with them.

The fact your man is so secure in his straightness makes me super happy. You are totally lucky!

Your observation was likely very dead-on about the attendees. I am a huge supporter of a type of manga/anime called Yaoi. It is stories of guy/guy love. I ran a forum for a long time called Yumes Yaoi. Through this forum I learned many many things. One of them is that the yaoi fanbase 90% of its women are straight. I can't recall the percentage of gay men but it was way high too. So if yaoi has mostly straight women and gay men, I imagine Nuke would have the same type of fanbase.

Sounds like your trip was something you will never forget!

Yes, he got major points for his hetero-secure attitude. He's very easy-going.

There are exceptions, but yes, that is the fanbase.

I have still more to tell about the trip. It was great!

Hee, I seem to be doing these recaps backward. But thanks! Sounds like you had a great time. And aww, about Ron.

Van and Jake’s fan base consists mostly of straight women and gay men,

Hey, not all of us women are straight! ;)

Yeah, Ron is a sweetie!

I did say "mostly." ;) I would venture that the percentage of lesbian/bisexual woman is greater than the percentage of straight men.
