Dittoheads. I can't believe I used to be one of them.

I can't believe you ever liked Rush Limbaugh.
I never could stand the guy.

Well, you can't stand Michelangelo Signorile, either, so I think your tolerance for political rhetoric in general is very low.

I grew up in a conservative household, like you. I believed what my father believed, because I figured he knew best.

There's that phrase, "The older I get, the smarter my parents get." Yeah, in my case, he's smart about a lot of things, but others, not so much.

Although I still think my mom's pretty smart. ;)

You've nailed it. I don't like those kind of speakers, no matter what side they're on. Never have.

There are Christian preachers who use this kind of rhetoric. I think they were my first exposure to that kind of thing, and I hated them with a passion. Still do, no matter that I believe in Christ. In fact, I'd say believing makes it even harder to hear them.

I loved political news in Germany. They had very little heated rhetoric, almost to the point of being boring. They stayed on issues and facts. Mentioned this to Eric, and he laughed, saying they DO get heated, but it's more like a slow simmer under the surface. I think it's a war damage thing...

I grew up in the same kind of household. I was a liberal teen who kept her opinions to herself, lol. In my 20s I swung right somewhat. Ten years later things centrified. (Lol, new word, or abuse of the language!) I'd say I'm still fairly independent, centrist, leaning left on social issues sometimes, but not always. lol.

That phrase you have there for your Dad fits mine, too. LOL!

You're lucky with your Mom. Nice you can still connect with her. I feel like I've lost that, and mine never was very smart... She recently sent me one of those spam fear emails, that Obama wants to steal our 401ks and IRAs...

Squirrel! DROID!

You should try tuning in NPR news. They are very understated in how they deliver it. And they also do more human interest and art/music stories. I usually listen a few times a week.

I remember being 18 or so and thinking that Rush was a voice of reason. I was never an avid listener or anything like that, but I had a friend who was.

I'm not sure if he's gotten more ridiculous over time or what, but it is upsetting to me that so many people put stock in him. The clips we just saw were simple fear-mongering.

He does seem to have gotten more ridiculous over time. His show is more about entertaining like-minded people than about facts.

But the fact is, he's not very entertaining. ;P
