GOProud? Not So Much

This is an almost two year old article, but nothing much has changed.

I have been following the actions of the two gay Republican groups: the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud.

I can't figure out for the life of me why GOProud exists at all. They broke off from LCR because they deemed them not conservative enough. Fine.

But I've not seen a more self-hating group - especially its leader, Chris Barron. They don't advocate for much of anything gay rights related. They're too busy trying to fit in with the most conservative anti-gay Republicans. I'm surprised they bother to acknowledge their sexual orientation at all.

They touted their inclusion as a sponsor for CPAC's (Conservative Political Action Coalition) conference as acceptance, saying that most conservative Republicans support gay rights. (In reality, perhaps it was more like, "sure, we'll take your money.") Several groups (American Family Association, Family Research Council, the Heritage Foundation, etc.) pulled out of the conference in protest.

Barron, in his speech at CPAC, called the boycotters bigots, and rightfully so. But the backlash from those present caused him to apologize. Why?

Now rumors are that GOProud will not be invited to CPAC next year. But yeah, they're accepted right?

They might as well be in the closet for all the good they're doing.
