Helping Wierd Al Get a Little Revenge

Lady Gaga loses some points with this one. See Wierd Al Yankovic's blog to find out why this won't be on his new album.

I'd love to have seen the real video.

(While HRC is a widely known gay rights group, they would not be my first choice to donate to. I recommend the Trevor Project, PFLAG, or Get Equal, to name three good ones.)

UPDATE: Lady Gaga Changes Her Mind

Not impressed with some of the comments of the writer, saying that Wierd Al basically gets a little too personal with the parody, ragging on Gaga herself. Really? As one commenter put it, "How can you dismiss 'Perform This Way' as not being a tribute if Al is in full support of her and the HRC? I mean, he obviously supports her unique persona and whatnot otherwise he wouldn't have made it the subject of the song.

"The lyrics ARE a lot like 'Smells Like Nirvana' where Nirvana ALSO loved it."

Some people really need to lighten up.

Eh, she's a kid. 24-year-olds are not good about getting the piss taken out of them. Give her ten years (and time to see the value of publicity you don't have to pay for no matter what kind it is - The Oscar Wilde Principal) and she might have approved it. *G*

Apparently, she's come around sooner than that. Word's out she's changed her mind.

Al knows what he's doing. He didn't just start this career yesterday. ;-)

He's a very smart guy.

You know, there's a theory somewhere that states you know you've made it big time when Wierd Al parodies you. Apparently her manager never heard of that.

And its hardly a hack job on her. It's not like she he's describing stuff she hasn't done in her performances.

Yeah, this will still reflect on her, even with the quick change.

People really need to learn to not take themselves so seriously.

Amen! I thought Weird Al handled this so eloquently, while her and her manager stepped on a land mind.

She looked like a hypocrite disapproving him to use the song as a charitable donation to the HRC; a campaign she so "heartily supports".

I'll never forget the cheerful face on Kurt Cobain when he heard "Smells like Nirvana". He was all "WE MADE IT! WE GOT PARODIED BY WEIRD AL! THIS IS AWESOME!"

There's class, and then there's ass.

I agree. Wierd Al is a class act. As he said, he doesn't legally need approval, but always seeks it anyway.

I didn't know that about Kurt Cobain, but I love it.

I don't imagine he will ever seek to parody her again after this.

I love Weird Al. His parodies are so spot-on.
