Just a Few Thoughts on Osama Bin Ladin

I was on Facebook and heard the news through my friends. How fitting!

My initial reaction was one of disbelief. It was just status posts. For all I knew, it could be a rumor. Then someone linked ABC News coverage.

So it appeared to be true.

I spent a few minutes looking through reactions, and shared the most sarcastic ones I could find:

Comment on Freedom Fighters for Equality "Tea Party won't believe it until White House produces long form of Bin Laden's death certificate." LOL

‎"African-American D.C. man confesses to killing elderly disabled man"--FOX News

[My own comment:] I'm waiting for Trump to take credit for this.

Hearing this morning about the flash mobs in D.C. and ground zero celebrating gave me pause, but I realize that Bin Ladin was THE face of those attacks on 911. So, I'm not upset about it. My own reaction was just as irreverent.

Mostly, I just feel like the country exhaled. I feel a sense of closure, even if it's not really.

Looking at all that has happened since 911 and all that will happen tomorrow and beyond, this is the thing that needed to happen above everything else.

It is all still kind of strange to think of. It will be interesting to see how things change and what will happen after this.

I'm thinking more of the same. But this is a milestone, for sure.

The fact that I found out about it cause I was bored and was getting ready to surf ONTD on here and it was the first post on there. Not something I would really expect to see on there.

I'm really pleased with how Obama went about it, too. He nixed the "let's bomb the place" idea that would have left no evidence and probably hurt or killed more people.

As a Canadian who is not afraid to critique some of the stuff America has done over the last ten years because of 9/11 I have no problems whatsoever with people spontaneously celebrating that murdering bastards death. The only thing I hope for now is that Americans can finally heal a bit, that NATO troops come home to their families, and that the world becomes ever so slightly less crazy.

I have friends all over the political spectrum, and some criticized the people who cheered and jeered at ground zero and D.C.

I say no one should criticize what is clearly an emotional reaction. There was no looting, destroying of property, and no one was hurt. Everyone's emotions are valid. It doesn't matter if everyone didn't react in the same way.

Frankly, anyone who supports the Taliban will never be without a reason to hate us, so we should not even consider their reactions to anything we do.

Moderate Islamists will appreciate the fact that his body was treated in a way that respects Islam. The whole thing was handled brilliantly, IMO.

I also think it was handled well. Really the only question I had about the whole thing was when I read that Pakistan's secret service were involved. I just want to know how many shots they fired at NATO and how many at the Taliban during the operation.

Yeah, they were involved, alright. That's another thing I liked about this. I'm not usually the kind to say, "We can do anything and go anywhere because we're AMERICA!" But in this case, Obama said screw Pakistan, who was hiding Bin Ladin in plain sight for years.
