3D vs. 2D

From a review: "The decision to do a post-production 3-D conversion is arguably the most ill-advised choice made in ten years of Harry Potter cinema....There are times when the 3-D effects appear forced and unnatural, unintentionally taking the viewer out of the moment. Seek out this movie in 2-D - the way Yates filmed it and the format in which it will look the best. This is a time when paying less will yield superior results."

I'm seeing it twice - first in 2D, then in 3D. I'll let you know which I prefer.

Edit: I'm glad I saw it in 2D first. The 3D version did take me out of the story for a few moments. Some effects were good. I'm glad I saw it that way, but I probably won't watch the 3D again.

Yay, enjoy the show! :D It is awesome.

I liked the 3D, but I'm not super experienced with 3D so I don't know if it was bad for 3D. For me, once or twice it was weird, but mostly it was cool.

I think 3D is still very much a novelty, and it would be easy to get caught up in an attitude of 3D for 3D's sake.

I'm really glad I saw it in 2D first. There were moments when I was distracted by an effect in the 3D.

They've gotta bitch about something or they'll be out of a job as a critic, I suppose. ;-)

Overall, the review was very good, as were most that I saw.

I agree. There were moments that it was really cool. Another was the Dementors around the castle at the very beginning. But for the most part it was unnecessary.

I'd be interested to know what you think of the 3D version. When they re-released Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D a few years ago my family went to see them again, and I honestly couldn't really tell much difference from the original versions. I think 3D films have to be shot a certain way with certain types of cameras in order to get the effects. Then again, I'm not too much of a fan of 3D anyway. I'd rather just watch a movie without having to put the glasses on over my own, lol.

Something like Avatar was really cool in 3D, but for the most part, if a movie is really good, 3D is an unnecessary distraction at times.

I'm glad I saw it in 3D, but I probably won't see it again that way.

I can't imagine any permanent damage to your eyes.

I don't think this one was as bad. I have gotten headaches from IMAX theatres where everything is just too damn close. The fact that this was not shot with 3D in mind kept away the crazy motion shots and stuff directly in your face that come with 3D.
