It’s been a busy and great couple of months in my world.

So first, diet and health. My allergies are raging. More on that later. Diet is pretty much the same. Yep, still up a few and down a few. I’m exercising regularly, and I can use the excuse that perhaps more of my weight is muscle, rather than fat, but not that much more, really. I feel pretty good, so there’s that.

Pittsburgh Pride was in the middle of June, as always, so we didn’t get to enjoy the celebration like those whose Pride events were this past weekend, but it was still a great time, especially since Adam Lambert performed for “Pride in the Street” on Saturday night.

(I REALLY wish I'd brought my good camera!)

I spent that afternoon at the Glambassador’s Bash, hosted by a local Glambert. I won some Adam swag, then helped the organizer haul stuff back up to her room and sat and talked for a couple of hours. This was a very good strategy for me, as I chose to wear my 4” platform wedge ankle boots, which would make me tall enough to see over most of the 95% female crowd. This worked very well. It is literally in the street with no chairs. I paid extra for a ticket to a special section up front. Well worth it for me, as it allowed me to come and go as I wished and still be only about six people from the front. There was even room to dance! Adam sounded great! His voice was well-rested, and he didn’t have to hold anything back!

For Sunday’s Pride parade and Pridefest, I brought along some friends this year. It rained at first (and I'm really glad I didn't bring my good camera!), but eventually, it cleared up and it was a great event, a place where everyone can be themselves. I love Pittsburgh Pride!

Our PFLAG chapter has been involved in a couple of area speaking engagements. I spoke at a screening of a movie about how Proposition 8 was passed in California. Fortunately, this happened after the Supreme Court struck it down. I don’t know if anyone could bear to watch it if that had not been the case.

The anti-gay organizations have their panties in a bunch after the SCOTUS rulings and are spewing more ridiculous propaganda than ever, but they are clearly on the losing side, and they know it. What can you do when you’ve made your living promoting hate, ignorance, and fear? They aren’t qualified for anything else, save a job as a pundit on Fox News.

In geek news, our town had a local arts festival towards the end of May. Among the scheduled events was an outdoor showing of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” I decided Bellatrix needed a night out, so my friend, Kim, and I headed out in costume. Kim is a lesbian and she really likes this costume on me, lol!

In this small vial is a preserved mouse fetus! A very eccentric vendor was selling these and other gross stuff. I thought it suited Bella, though!

We were bummed when they cancelled the movie on account of the very cold weather. Only four of us showed up, and they decided paying the royalties would not be worth it. Oh, well.

On June 22nd, I attended my third “Can’t Stop the Serenity” event. I won more Chinese swag. ;-) I also place second in the target shooting. So rest assured, I can keep you safe from harm – as long as the targets are not moving. ;-)

Some of my Firefly swag:

I have done absolutely nothing on the costuming front, except to buy a dremel, which I need for my Galadriel armor. It’s still in the box. ;-P

I went to Kennywood Park with a friend for my employer’s company picnic. Kennywood has been around since 1898. It’s a well-kept park, with several plaques noting its historical milestones.

"Martians" populate the spaceship ride. ;-)

And just to make my allergies a little worse, about two weeks ago, as some of my friends know, I adopted my neighbor’s cats when she moved to an apartment that wouldn’t allow them. They are eight-year-old calicos, sisters, and VERY skittish. I’ve barely seen them. My goal for the time being is to not have them run and hide when they see me. I think that’s all I can hope for right now.

And of course, with the fireworks, I’m keeping the upstairs windows closed and the air conditioners on to mask the outside noise, in an effort to reduce trauma.

That’s all for now. Tomorrow’s a busy day. PFLAG board meeting and breakfast in the am, serving lunch for a friend in exchange for his hauling off some brush, and a visit with my brother, Alan, later. Have a great, July, everyone!

Good to hear from you!

Sorry about your allergies, but congrats on sticking with your diet and exercise regime. I feel like I eat fairly healthy and I go to the gym 2-3 times a week, but I also seem to be maintaining my weight or gaining weight. I'm hoping that it's muscle too, but I guess there's no way to tell for sure. The fact that you feel better is the most important part, though.

Glad you had a good time at Pride, and went to some fan events.

I hope things continue to get better with the kitties.

Good luck with the meeting tomorrow, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thanks, my friend. This update came a lot later than I had hoped, but I got there eventually!
